Home Remodeling Project in Lake Conway? Here's How to Prepare

August 18, 2025

A home remodeling project is a significant investment, including the time and energy required to move through the process from start to finish.

Fortunately, after decades of collective design and construction experience, Details Construction Group knows exactly how to prepare clients for their home remodeling journey.

Let Details Construction Group Pave The Way For Your Home Remodel

Here are things you can do to prepare for the ride and trust that you'll fall in love with the results.

1. Choose The Best Home Remodeling Team For the Job

The first step in trusting the process is selecting a design-build team that you can rely on completely. When it comes to a whole home remodel, the team you choose becomes your partners for the project's duration, including being a regular presence during business hours. A trusted relationship is essential.

This requires at least a few different meet-and-greets with the Lake Conway area's best remodeling contractors. In addition to getting a feel for how they work, the level of customization of their designs, and so on, you'll also get a sense of who they are.

When you work with Details Construction Group, you can rest assured that your remodel will be worry-free because we are professionals and experts at both design and construction.

2. Landing On Big Picture Priorities & Design Motif

Before we launch into the exciting business of selecting fixtures and finishes, we'll want to land on the big picture priorities. This requires getting to know more about you, your lifestyle, and your current and future plans for the home.

We'll talk about:

  • Whether the current layout works or if it's time to change it up?
  • Any children (or plans to have them), their needs, and how those may change in the next five to ten years.
  • If you're recent or soon-to-be empty nesters, we'll talk about how that will alter your day-to-day use of the home and its living spaces.
  • Whether or not you plan to age in place.
  • The daily rhythms of the household for both task- and play-oriented activities.
  • Are there any plans to rent or sell the home within the next ten years?
  • And so on.

Answers to these and other questions help us determine the architectural needs and priorities. From there, we'll start to explore your styles and tastes, and how to integrate those into a timeless home design.

3. Preparing For and Working With The Construction Schedule

By and large, the hardest part is the inherent changes in routine, as well as the noise and distractions inherent in a major home remodeling project. We recommend reading HGTV's post outlining 10 ways to prepare for a major home remodel or renovation to get ideas for what to think about.

We'll go over all of it with you before the project begins, helping you to prepare yourself, your children, pets, etc. Again, this is where your design-build team's experience is critical to your experience.

There is no way to guarantee an exact timeline because so many factors are out of our control (weather, shipping delays, vendor issues, etc.). However, we promise to keep you in the know, and you'll be continuously updated on the progress, any delays, and the current build-out schedule. Finally, our crew knows that we pride ourselves on a clean and tidy work site, always doing our very best to minimize the impact on the rest of your home.

4. Understanding Estimates and Home Remodeling Budgets

It's also essential that you understand that estimates are just that. As with the construction timeline, there are many things that aren't in our control. The most significant being material costs, which can go up or down in a very short amount of time.

When we help you determine your budget, we'll encourage you to add another 15% to 20% to the total amount to give you wiggle room for any changes or discrepancies in the estimate vs. the real costs. And, of course, we'll keep you closely informed and explain any unexpected changes.
